  • About Us
  • World Refugee Day
We are a group of people passionate about the importance of human connection and social integration.  We wanted to welcome people who have been through the hardships of refugee experiences and combat the social isolation a person may feel when arriving to a new country.  OneStep, a non for profit organisation, was born at a Techfugees Hackathon in 2016 as a platform to build mutual understanding and empathy between locals and people with refugee experience.

OUR MISSION
Is to relieve the isolation and associated mental distress experienced by people of refugee background in Australia through human connection.

OUR 2021 ANNUAL REPORT

Our annual report shows how we are supporting people with a refugee experience and local Australians to come together and build mutual understanding and connection one step at a time. We share stories from our participants, highlight our focus areas, and offer a transparent overview including a full Treasurer's Report.
OUR 2020 - 2021 Reconciliation Action Plan

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live and walk. We acknowledge their Elders, past, present and future, and their enduring connection to Country. We acknowledge that the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of this land have been welcoming newcomers for thousands of years.

We hold this tradition with deep respect, and we hope to grow and learn from this long-lasting cultural practice and the Peoples who uphold this practice. In the spirit of reconciliation, we feel it is important to formally and actively recognise this tradition as we welcome newcomers to these lands that were never ceded.  Our Reconciliation Action Plan will help us to achieve this meaningfully rather than tokenistically.

Our OneStep Evaluation Report 2021

In collaboration with Claremont Graduate University Evaluators, an evaluation of the OneStepWalks program was conducted from September 2020-August 2021.
This was the first time I felt like I was treated simply as a human being rather than being defined as a "refugee." - anonymous participant with refugee experience .
