CONNECTING LOCAL
AUSTRALIANS & PEOPLE WITH REFUGEE
EXPERIENCE FOR A
WALK & TALK EVENT
Building mutual understanding and empathy, one step at a time.
We are a registered charity with the Australian Charities & Not-for-profits Commission.

WHAT WE DO

We organise walks in the different scenic areas of Sydney to build synergy between communities.  The walks give an opportunity for people who live locally and people with refugee experience to meet for a walk and talk increasing empathy and strengthening the community. We make the connections and run the events so that they are open and accessible to everyone. In our first 3 years, we completed 17 successful walks across Sydney, connecting more than 1,100 people and proudly supporting people with refugee experience resettle in our communities.

WHO WILL YOU WALK WITH?

People from all over the world
  • OneStep people are from all over the world. You'll have a chance to meet and share thoughts with people from any background.
People with different languages
  • Language sometimes can be a barrier. Sometimes it's also the perfect way to open up to a new world and gain a new perspective.
People with similar interests
  • Similar age, parents with kids and a lot more, we always try to match people up that have something in common. Sometimes we try to do the opposite, and guess what? That works perfectly too.
A group of people
  • This is not a one-on-one interview, confessing your stories and your untold sins. We always prefer to group people up in small teams of four or five people. That will help you to have the right dynamics during the walk.

DID YOU KNOW?

The number of people forcibly displaced worldwide is estimated
by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at 65.3 million
